Mac Os Cheetah

What would happen if you took the default image for every Mac wallpaper from Cheetah to Catalina, and combined them into a single image? The above, is what…

I’m a Brit, so not prone to using a word beloved of many Americans, but I think this may be officially awesome.

iOS theme developer Jenny Vanille chose Xmas day to tweet her work, so not many noticed it, but TNW spotted it today.

It’s phenomenal. It’s like a magic eye painting. Or one of those weird drawings an AI created. In other words, it’s art.

Mac Os Cheetah

There’s no single feature in Mac OS X Leopard ISO that will force Mac users to upgrade immediately. Instead, it’s the sheer deluge of new features of Mac OS X 10.5 Downoad ISO that’s likely to persuade most active Mac users to upgrade, especially since this is the longest gap between OS X upgrades two and a half years since the product was introduced. Mac OS X 10.0, dubbed “Cheetah” went on sale for $129 on March 24, 2001. It brought the Aqua user interface and technology like preemptive multitasking and protected memory to a wider audience than the Public Beta. Cheetah required 128 MB of RAM, which seems meager today, but was more than most Mac users had in their systems at the time.

Vanille thinks no-one will ever use it.

DescriptionAs we all know, Mac OS X 10.0 can only be installed and runs on a Power PC-Based Computer such as the Power Mac G4, however, to run it as a Virt. The Mac OS X 10.0 Cheetah is an operating system that was designed, developed, and sold by Apple in 2001 alongside Apple’s personal computers. The system has been released on 24 March 2001, and was available for $129 or was preinstalled on currently sold computers. This software gets the last update (10.0.4) on 21 June 2001 and later has been replaced by a newer version of Mac OS X 10.1 Puma. Mac OS X Cheetah (10.0) is the first retail release of Mac OS X, which was released on 24 March 2001.

No one asked for this. But here it is: every macOS wallpaper from Mac OS X 10.0 Cheetah to macOS 10.15 Catalina combined. I highly doubt that anyone will ever use this.

I can already prove her wrong.

If you want to use it as your own Mac wallpaper, you can download a 5K version here. While you’re there, you can also grab every iOS wallpaper in one image, as well as all the iPhone 11 wallpapers combined.

TNW doesn’t show every Mac wallpaper used but does provide an overview of the various generations to give a feel for how they’ve evolved over the years. As well as fantasizing about what I agree would be the best job in the world.

I like to think that somewhere inside the bureaucratic labyrinth of Apple’s employee structure, there’s a single person with the world’s greatest job. Each year, they only have to do a single thing: Traverse the world and try to take a sick photo of a landscape for the latest macOS wallpaper.

I suspect the reality is more like sitting at a desk searching photography sites for images offering exclusive rights for sale …

Every major version of Mac OS X macOS has come with a new default wallpaper. As you can see, I have collected them all here.

While great in their day, the early wallpapers are now quite small in the world of 5K and 6K displays.

10.0 Cheetah & 10.1 Puma

The first two releases of Mac OS X shared the same wallpaper. The sweeping blue arcs and curves helped set the tone of the new Aqua interface.

10.2 Jaguar

Jaguar took the same Aqua-inspired theme but added some depth and motion to things. In my head, the trails streaking across the screen were from a set of comets.

10.3 Panther

While Panther inflicted Macs everywhere with Brushed Metal, its wallpaper stayed on brand, refreshing the original 10.0 image.

10.4 Tiger

Many consider Tiger to be the best “classic” version of Mac OS X. While that may or may not be true, it is my favorite Aqua-inspired wallpaper.

10.5 Leopard

Complete with a revised, unified user interface and shiny new Dock, 10.5 broke the Aqua mold. As such, Leopard was the first version of OS X to break from the Aqua-themed wallpaper. It ushered in the “space era” of OS X wallpapers, which was used heavily in the new Time Machine interface as well.

10.6 Snow Leopard

The “no new features” mantra for Snow Leopard didn’t ban a new wallpaper, thankfully. This starscape is still one of my favorites.

10.6 Snow Leopard Server

The server version of Snow Leopard came with its own unique wallpaper that is a real treat:

10.7 Lion

Lion kept up the space theme, this time showing off the Andromeda galaxy. The space nerd in me likes the idea, but the execution of this one leaves dead-last on my list of favorites.

10.8 Mountain Lion

Just like Snow Leopard before it, with Mountain Lion, Apple opted to clean up and revise the existing theme as opposed to changing directions for what would be a less-impactful release of OS X.

10.9 Mavericks

Mavericks marked the beginning of Apple’s “California location” naming scheme for Mac releases. The wave depicted looks as intimidating as the ones in the famous surfing location.

10.10 Yosemite

Yosemite brought another UI refresh to the Mac, making things flatter and more modern. The wallpaper ushered in a new era based on … well … mountains.

10.11 El Capitan

Named after a breathtaking spot in Yosemite National Park, El Capitan was a clean-up year after 10.10.

10.14 Mojave

Mac

No more mountains! Mojave brought a new system-wide Dark Mode, and the OS shipped with two versions of its default wallpaper to match. Users could even have macOS slowly fade between the two background images over the course of the day.

10.15 Catalina

macOS Catalina brought big changes to the Mac, including the ability to run iPad apps natively, opening the platform up to a much larger number of developers than ever before. Catalina shipped with multiple variants of its default wallpaper, and the ability to shift between them as time progresses throughout the day:

macOS Big Sur

This version of macOS is such a big deal, Apple changed the version number to 11.0. It will be the OS that brings support for Apple Silicon-powered Macs, and features a brand new design.
